DIXIE YOUTH T-BALL

LOCAL LEAGUE POLICIES

OBJECTIVES

1) To learn the fundamentals of baseball.

2) To learn good sportsmanship.

3) To learn how to accomplish goals through teamwork.

a) The objectives and rules are set forth with the intention of having fun under an organized concept of rules. Skills learned through the child’s participation will carry over into daily life including family and school activities. We encourage all parents to be supportive of their child as well as all participants.

b) T-ball is dependent on parental support during the games as well. For each game there will be a need for field preparation, umpiring, and coaching. We feel the league can achieve all our goals only if the entire group of players, coaches, and parents contribute their talents. When your child’s coach asks for help, please step forward.

RULES

1) The fielding positions will be the same as the Major and Minor league divisions with the exception of additional outfielders.

2) All players will bat in the line-up.

3) All players must play in the field.

4) The ball will be pitched or placed on a stand, and it must travel beyond the seven (7) foot line to be considered in play.

5) The game should last about one (1) hour and fifteen (15) minutes regardless of the number of innings.

6) The games should start promptly at 6:00 PM.

7) In addition to the normal base coaching positions at first and third, the offensive team is allowed a coach at home plate. It is the job of this coach to position the batter and ball in the hitting position. This coach also serves as the home plate umpire. The other coach will be the pitching coach, if one is needed.

8) During the game the defensive team may have coaches on the field. The coaches are not to physically help or assist the players while the ball is in play.

9) To initiate the ball in play, the umpire calls, "Pitcher, pitch the ball." This alerts the fielders and base runners. There will be a three-strike pitch and then the ball will be placed on the tee.

10) The field is marked with "half-way" lines between the bases. These lines indicate the advancement of a runner during a play. In a normal hit condition, the fielders must throw the ball to the infield. Once the ball in under the control of an infielder, play is dead. If a player has crossed the half-way line, then he/she must return to the last base touched while the ball was in play.

11) On an overthrow to first or third base, runners may only advance one base.

12) The pitcher must stay in the pitching circle until the ball is hit. All players are encouraged to throw the ball to the base rather than run to the base with the ball.

13) Spectators are to remain behind the fence.

14) Only the head coach can question a call. However, no judgment calls will be changed, as the umpires have the final say.

15) Coaches must have their line-ups ready prior to the scheduled start time. This will ensure that game time schedules are being followed.

16) Late players coming to the game will be added to the end of the line-up.

17) The batter will be called out if he/she slings the bat. One warning per batter will be given.

18) After games have started, base coaches cannot touch runners while the ball is in play. If the runner is touched, then he/she will be called out. This is an effort to help teach the players when to run.

19) Coaches are responsible for their conduct, the conduct of the players, and of the players’ parents. Coaches, players, or parents (spectators) who display unnecessary conduct or bad sportsmanship will be ejected from the game, and possibly form the ballpark, by the umpire.

20) No player can bat more than once in any inning regardless of the fact that there may be less than three outs. After all players have batted, the inning is over.
