Information
|
Mecklenburg Crime Solvers is a
community program geared toward public involvement in the fight against
crime.
It offers cash rewards of up to $1,000.00, and anonymity to citizens who
provide information to Crime Solvers.
Most of the information received by
Crime Solvers is via the telephone at:
1-877-676-TIPS
1-877-676-8477
This number is manned by the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Department on a
24-hour basis.
( In an emergency, do NOT call this
number! Call ( 9-1-1)

|
Each week, an unsolved crime is selected as the
Crime of the Week. The facts are broadcast on radio and
printed in various newspapers as well as appearing on this site.
When a call is received by Crime Solvers, a fact
sheet is filled out. The date, time, and a brief summary of
the caller's information is recorded. The caller is then
assigned a code number which is used in subsequent calls to Crime
Solvers and when any reward is paid to the caller.
All information is kept strictly confidential as
callers remain anonymous, with no pressure to reveal their
identity.
If a caller's information results in the arrest of an offender and
an indictment is secured, if stolen property is recovered, or
there is a confiscation of illegal drugs, arrangements are made so
that the caller can receive the reward in cash and preserve their
anonymity.
A Crime Solvers Board of Directors, composed of
citizens from all areas of Mecklenburg, oversees the operation of
the program and approves the rewards to be paid.
The Board of Directors does not know who
provided the information--only the facts of the case and the
caller's Crime Solvers number. The determination of these
rewards is based individually on each crime: the severity, other
factors in the occurrence, and information presented by the police
coordinators.
Crime Solvers is a non-profit organization and
is funded entirely through public donations.
Contributions are Tax
Deductible!
Citizens with information
about any crime are requested to call Crime Solvers at:
1-877-676-TIPS
1-877-676-8477
The caller is assured
anonymity by using this method.
