The Robin's Nest
The Robin's Nest has been the name of my studio since 1982. It has evolved with my interests and lifestyle through the years. After many years of intense involvement with traditional rug hooking, my interest has returned to knitting and spinning. Knitting is so portable and follows me everywhere! I LOVE to knit! The rhythm and the soft clicking of the needles - so soothing. To go with my knitting, I make stitch markers, scissor fobs, and row markers. I enjoy accessorizing my knitting with the colorful beaded markers. The large beaded scissor fob attached to the handle makes it a little more difficult to misplace my scissors. A good motto - Life is short - accessorize your knitting! When my boys were young, I used to demonstrate spinning in schools and at festivals. Children were always mesmerized by the wheel. One little boy called to his mother saying that I had "magic hands". Spinning is cathartic and I love the feel of the fiber slipping through my fingers. It also feeds my knitting stash. I also dabble in watercolor painting. I love the look of juicy watery paintings. And, I love color! I really need to paint more but can't seem to put down the knitting needles. Just need more hands and more TIME! I direct an annual knitting retreat, KNITTIN' at the LAKE, in January and a rug hooking workshop, HOOKIN' at the LAKE, in July. Both events are held at Best Western on the Lake in Clarksville, Virginia. Please visit Magic Carpet Gallery to view some of the beautiful rugs that have been on exhibit during previous rug workshops. Below are pictures of my knitting, spinning projects, and watercolor paintings. If you'd like to follow my adventures, check out my blog, www.fortheloveoffiber.typepad.com.
